On My Easel

This painting is a little outside my comfort zone, but discomfort promotes growth, and I saw this so very clearly in my head that I had to paint it. It is the product of several different occurrences. At sunset recently, a giant flock of green parakeets flew so near as I stood on my balcony that I felt as if I were enveloped by brilliant green streaks of living light. It was a short, fleeting moment, but one I will never forget. This event coupled with the recent discovery of the mystical, evocative work of Sydney Long, as well as reoccurring dreams of green— wearing a green dress, painting clothing green, seeing green paint on the ends of a paintbrush—all morphed in my head into this image.
